Even a genuinely strong interview opportunity can sour quite quickly if the surrounding logistics become unnecessarily complicated, with excessive approval requirements, last minute changes or genuinely unclear points of contact all adding needless friction to what should really be a fairly straightforward exchange between two working professionals under time pressure.

Smooth logistics mean confirming every detail clearly and early on: timing, format, location or platform, and exactly who from the organisation will actually be available to answer follow up questions if something needs clarifying later. Leaving these particular details vague until the very last moment creates entirely unnecessary stress on both sides of the exchange.

Respecting a newsroom's own genuine constraints, including their tight deadlines and their real need for flexibility around breaking news elsewhere, tends to make an organisation a considerably easier and more welcome partner to work with consistently over time, compared with one that treats every single interview as an opportunity to impose excessive process.
