Industry awards emerged as a genuine way for the communication profession to recognise and celebrate truly excellent work, creating a shared reference point for what genuinely strong practice actually looks like in reality, well beyond whatever standard any individual organisation might set purely for its own internal purposes alone.

Award programs also genuinely encouraged practitioners to document and articulate their strategic thinking quite clearly, since a strong entry typically requires explaining not just what was actually done but why it was done, a discipline that has arguably improved how the profession as a whole thinks and talks about its own work over time.

Over time, award criteria have genuinely evolved to reflect the profession's changing priorities, increasingly weighting measurable effectiveness alongside genuine creative quality, reflecting a broader shift toward treating communication as a discipline genuinely accountable for real outcomes rather than simply creative merit alone in isolation from any measurable result.
